Protecting single source aquifers that lie above state land.

    AN ACT Relating to state forest land that lies above a single source aquifer; and adding a new section to chapter 76.04 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 76.04 RCW to read as follows:

    The department must maintain continuing forestry on all state forest lands when those lands are above a single source aquifer.  This forest management will maintain water purity and the availability of water for public and private domestic and commercial use.  State-owned forest lands must not be converted to a higher use when the conversion would have a potential negative impact on a single source aquifer.
