Requesting that Congress provide resources to Madigan Army Medical Center to participate in providing Level II trauma care.



    TO THE HONORABLE WILLIAM J. CLINTON, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES, IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED:

    We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

    WHEREAS, The greater Tacoma area is without a state-designated Level II Trauma Care Center; and

    WHEREAS, The need for trauma care in the area is acute and growing; and

    WHEREAS, Madigan Army Medical Center has been voluntarily providing trauma care services to the community; and

    WHEREAS, Resources are needed to enable Madigan Army Medical Center to be a permanent part of a cooperative effort to provide trauma care services currently not available elsewhere; and

    WHEREAS, Madigan Army Medical Center is a designated state-wide trauma care center in the event of a declared disaster; and

    WHEREAS, The state of Washington and local governments should accept a share of the cost and obligations necessary to maintain a trauma care center at Madigan Army Medical Center;

    NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the United States Congress provide resources, authority, and adequate medical personnel to enable Madigan Army Medical Center to join with the state of Washington and local governments to permanently provide Level II trauma care.

    BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable William J. Clinton, President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and each member of Congress from the State of Washington.
