SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and
WHEREAS, The Yakima Sun Kings basketball team are the National Champions of the Continental Basketball Association for the 1994-1995 season; and
WHEREAS, The Yakima Sun Kings are only in their fifth season; and
WHEREAS, The Sun Kings, in order to win the championship, had to beat the top teams in the Continental Basketball Association, the likes of which were Chicago, Oklahoma City, Shreveport, and Omaha; and
WHEREAS, The Sun Kings, representing Yakima, one of the smallest cities in the league with a population of under sixty thousand, won the championship by defeating Pittsburgh, a city with a population of over three hundred sixty thousand, in remarkable David-and-Goliath fashion May 1, 1995, in the Yakima Sun Dome, by a score of 96-94;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate acknowledge and honor the Yakima Sun Kings for their victory in obtaining the National Championship of the Continental Basketball Association; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Yakima Sun Kings team, the Sun Kings' General Manager Allison, and the Sun Kings' Coach Mahone.
