SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma is a municipality which includes more than seventy-five parklands and recreational facilities in the greater Tacoma area; and
WHEREAS, The parklands range from the six hundred ninety-eight-acre Point Defiance Park and Northwest Trek to small neighborhood parks, a golf course, athletic complexes, historic sites, community centers, swimming pools, nature preserves, beaches, fishing piers, lakes, and some of the most beautiful gardens on the West Coast; and
WHEREAS, The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget; and
WHEREAS, The award represents a significant achievement by the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting; and
WHEREAS, In order to receive the budget award, the Metropolitan Park District
of Tacoma had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation; and
WHEREAS; The guidelines are designed to assess how well a government's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communication device; and
WHEREAS, Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America; and
WHEREAS, The Government Finance Officers Association serves over twelve thousand six hundred fifty government finance professionals and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting throughout North America;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate of the state of Washington recognize the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma for receiving the Budget Presentation Award for its budget from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma.
