(DIGEST AS ENACTED)

     Directs DOC to assume the supervision of misdemeanants sentenced in superior court.

     Authorizes counties to assume the supervision of the misdemeanants through a contract with DOC.

     Specifies the types of activities the probation officers may undertake relating to misdemeanants referred to their department.

     Requires county standards to be no less stringent than those of DOC.

     Designates liability standards for state and county officials.

     Increases the monthly assessment upon a misdemeanant from fifty to one hundred dollars.

     Directs the administrator for the courts to define a probation department and to adopt rules for the qualifications of probation officers.
