(DIGEST AS ENACTED)

     Creates three degrees of a new crime of abandonment of a dependent person.

     Declares that first degree abandonment, as defined, is a class B felony.

     Declares that second degree abandonment, as defined, is a class C felony.

     Declares that third degree abandonment, as defined, is a gross misdemeanor.

     Provides an affirmative defense to abandonment that the person employed to provide any of the basic necessities of life to the dependent person gave reasonable notice of termination of services.
