On page 3, line 31, after "(i) Up to" strike "eight" and insert "six"
On page 3, line 32, strike "thirty-six" and insert "twenty-eight"
On page 4, line 1, after "year." insert "In reviewing a variance request under this subsection, the official at the school with responsibility for granting the variance must consult with each teacher of the minor for whom the variance is sought."
EFFECT: Reduces the maximum number of hours of work permitted for 16 and 17 year olds on a school day from six to four hours. Changes the authority for school-granted variances for 16 and 17 year olds: (1) under the variance, the maximum hours of work on a school day is changed from eight hours to six hours, and the maximum number of hours per school week is changed from 36 hours to 28 hours, and (2) the school official granting the variance must consult with the minor's teachers. (The amendment does not change the school's authority to grant variances relating to quit times up to 11:00 p.m., as long as work is not past 10:00 p.m. on two consecutive days preceding school days.)
