     On page 3, line 8, strike "1997" and insert "1998"

     On page 3, line 11, strike "1997" and insert "1998"

     On page 3, line 12, after "town" insert "other than a municipality described in (a) of this subsection"

EFFECT: If a muncipality currently is authorized to impose  hotel-motel taxes at a rate in excess of 4%, and actually imposes that rate on January 1, 1998, the muncipality may continue to impose that rate after the bill takes effect.  This affects the following muncipalities:

          Pierce county and cities therein  7%           4%

          City of Chelan                    5%           4%

          City of Leavenworth               5%           3%
