     On page 94, line 21, increase the general fund--state appropriation for FY 1998 by $3,600,000

     On page 94, line 21, increase the general fund--state appropriation for FY 1999 by $3,600,000

     Correct the total accordingly

     On page 95, after line 15, insert:

A(7) $7,200,000 of the general fund‑-state appropriation is provided for grants to school districts to provide a continuum of care for children and families to help children become ready to learn. Grant proposals from school districts shall contain local plans designed collaboratively with community service providers.  If a continuum of care program exists in the area in which the school district is located, the local plan shall provide for coordination with existing programs to the greatest extent possible.  Grant funds shall be allocated pursuant to RCW 70.190.040.@

EFFECT: Establishes the Readiness to Learn program in the Education Reform program as a line item at the same level as in the 1995-97 budget.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Increases General Fund-State by $7,200,000.
