    On page 37, line 4, increase the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 1998 by $143,000.

    On page 37, line 5, increase the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 1999 by $140,000.

    On page 37, line 6, increase the general fund--private/local appropriation by 228,000.

    Adjust the total appropriation accordingly.

    On page 37, starting on line 8, strike everything starting with "The appropriations" through "county." on line 18. 

    On page 37, after line 7, insert the following:

    "(1) $297,000 of the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 1998 and $304,000 of the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 1999 are provided solely for the commission to continue to carry out its mandated duties under the Columbia river gorge national scenic area act.

    (2) $59,000 of the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 1998 and $58,000 of the general-fund state appropriation for fiscal year 1999 are provided solely for a program to monitor implementation of the Columbia river gorge national scenic management plan.

EFFECT:  Restores current-level funding for the Columbia River Gorge Commission and provides an additional $117,000 for the Commission to implement a program to monitor implementation of the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area Management Plan.
