Background:  The Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, and Manicuring Advisory Board consists of nine members appointed by the director of the Department of Licensing. Members include one consumer and eight members affiliated with cosmetology, barbering, esthetics, or manicuring.

 

In 1995, 31 boards, commissions, and committees were eliminated.  At that time, the Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, and Manicuring Advisory Board was scheduled to expire on June 30, 1997.  Membership on the board was increased from five to seven members, and the board was charged with making a thorough review of educational and licensing requirements and making a report to the Legislature.

 

In 1997, the board's expiration was postponed to June 30, 1998, and membership of the board was increased from seven to nine members.

 

Summary of Bill:  The nine-member Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, and Manicuring Advisory Board is continued with no scheduled expiration date.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
