BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  Authorizing institutions of higher education to retain private legal counsel or employ the services of the attorney general.

 

 

BACKGROUND:  Institutions of higher education are required to use the services of the attorney general for legal proceedings.  During the 1995-97 biennium approximately thirty one full time equivalent (FTE) assistant attorney generals were assigned to represent institutions of higher education.  The total budgeted for salaries and support was $8.3 million dollars.

 

 

SUMMARY:  Institutions of higher education may use the services of the attorney general=s office or the institutions may hire private legal counsel.
