Background:  Congress repealed the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program and replaced it with the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program as part of federal welfare reform.

 

Summary of Substitute Bill: References to the AFDC program in the Revised Code of Washington are deleted and replaced with references to the TANF program.

 

Substitute Bill Compared to Original Bill:  Statutory references to the federal medicaid program and the federal foster care eligibility standards are corrected.

 

Appropriation:  None.

Effective Date of Substitute Bill:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
