BACKGROUND:

 

The Secretary of State may make rules providing for elections forms and procedures.  County auditors are responsible for preparing ballots and voting instructions.  County auditors are required to provide large-type voting instructions at polling places.

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Secretary of State shall make rules to provide for ballots and voting instructions in Braille.  The rules may provide for pilot testing of Braille ballots and instructions before the availability of Braille materials becomes mandatory.  Voter registration cards and applications for absentee ballots must include a space for requesting ballots and instructions in Braille.

EFFECTIVE DATE:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
