Background:  The school year consists of a minimum of 180 school days.  There are minimum program hours that must be offered per year based on grade level. 

Summary of Bill:  The minimum school year length is increased by one day per biennium beginning in 1999-2001 and ending in 2017-19, when the school year then will be 190 days.  The minimum program hours that must be offered are expressed as a per day average rather than a yearly total.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
