Brief Description:  Authorizing the use of the education savings account for technology training for educators.

 

 

Background:  The 1997 Legislature created the Education Savings Account as a funding source for projects in the common schools including school construction and technology.   In the 1997‑99 biennium $39,312,000 has been appropriated for matching grants and related state activities to provide school district consortia with programs utilizing technology to improve learning.  Awards of funds is to be based on proposals which have the best plans for improving student learning through innovative curriculum using technology as a learning tool and evaluating the effectiveness of curriculum innovations.   The enabling statute does not address the use of technology project funds for training.

 

 

Summary:  The use of funds for projects funded from the Education Savings Account may include training

 

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
