Title:  An act relating to standardized high school transcripts.

 

Brief Description:  Requiring a weighting system for honors classes grades to be used in determining standardized grade points for high school transcripts.

Background:  Under current law, the State Board of Education develops a uniform presentation for high school transcript information.  Definitions of terms like Ahours@ and Acredits@ make it possible for employers and college admission officers to compare the performance of students across high schools operating on a quarter, semester, or trimester system.

 

Summary of Bill:  Provisions for standard public high school transcripts are modified.  The State Board of Education is directed to adopt a weighting system for grades earned by students in honors and advanced placement classes.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
