Title:  An act relating to the parks and recreation commission.

 

Brief Description:  Requiring the state parks and recreation commission to submit a site specific timber management and timber salvage policy to the legislature.

Background:  The State Parks and Recreation Commission manages the timber and land under its jurisdiction to maintain and enhance aesthetic and recreational values.

 

Trees may be removed from parks when they are hazardous, as part of a conservation project, as part of an easement, or when damaged by a catastrophic forest event.

 

Summary of Bill:  By November 1997, the State Parks and Recreation Commission submits a report to the Legislature, specifying a site specific timber management and salvage policy, along with recommendations and suggested legislation to carry out the policy.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
