Background:  Currently, a Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) retiree or a beneficiary of a PERS retirement allowance cannot have charitable deductions automatically withdrawn from that retirement allowance on the same terms as employees and public officers.

 

Summary of Bill:  A PERS retiree or a beneficiary of a PERS retirement allowance is not prohibited from authorizing deductions from that allowance for charitable purposes. 

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Requested on January 19, 1998.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  Retirees would appreciate the opportunity to have charitable contributions automatically withdrawn from their monthly retirement allowances.
