Background:  A declaration for candidacy for the office of school director, where voters from a district comprising more than one county vote upon the candidate, is filed with the county auditor of the county in which a majority of the registered voters of the district reside.

 

Summary of Bill:  For school directors in joint school districts, the declaration of candidacy is filed with the county auditor of the county to which the joint school district is considered as belonging as designated by the State Board of Education.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  Candidates for school director sometimes file in the wrong county or play it safe and file in two counties.  This eliminates any doubts about where to file.
