Majority Report: Do pass.
Signed by Senators McCaslin, Chair; Anderson, Haugen and Horn.
Staff: Eugene Green (786-7405)
Background: Men and women from Washington State serve their communities as law enforcement officers, placing their own safety at risk on a regular basis to help us all live in safer, healthier communities.
The law enforcement community has expressed an interest in raising all needed funds for the design and construction of a memorial honoring all those who have served or continue to serve both their communities and their fellow citizens as law enforcement officers.
The state Council of Police Officers has actively pursued the construction of such a memorial and has formed the Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Committee to guide such an effort.
Summary of Bill: The memorialists urge that interested parties, including the Director of General Administration and the State Capitol Campus Design Advisory Committee, work with the Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Committee to design and construct a memorial honoring all those who have served as law enforcement officers. The Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Committee is urged to recommend a site for the memorial to the State Capitol Campus Design Advisory Committee and the State Capitol Committee.
