Providing for additional judges for the Pierce county superior court.

    AN ACT Relating to superior court judges; amending RCW 2.08.061; and creating a new section.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

    Sec. 1.  RCW 2.08.061 and 1996 c 208 s 3 are each amended to read as follows:

    There shall be in the county of King no more than fifty-eight judges of the superior court; in the county of Spokane eleven judges of the superior court; and in the county of Pierce ((nineteen)) twenty-four judges of the superior court.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  One additional judicial position created by section 1 of this act is effective January 1, 1998; two positions are effective January 1, 1999; and two positions are effective January 1, 2000.  The actual starting dates for these positions must be established by the Pierce county council upon request of the superior court and by recommendation of the Pierce county executive.
