Providing a study of low-income housing assistance.



    AN ACT Relating to a low-income housing study; creating a new section; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The legislature finds that there is a need for a study to be conducted concerning access to low-income housing assistance in the state of Washington.  The financial institutions and housing committee in the senate, and the trade and economic development committee in the house of representatives, shall conduct a study to determine the number of people in the state of Washington receiving low-income housing assistance for both renting and purchasing dwellings.  The study must also include information relating to what type of households receive aid, the number of recipients in each county receiving housing assistance, the qualifications needed to receive housing assistance, the age and household income of the people receiving aid, and who is distributing the aid and in what amounts.  The committees shall report back with their findings prior to January 1, 1998.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and takes effect immediately.
