Extending the 4.7187 percent state property tax levy reduction through 1997.



    AN ACT Relating to extending the 4.7187 percent state property tax levy reduction through 1997; amending RCW 84.55.012; creating a new section; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    Sec. 1.  RCW 84.55.012 and 1995 2nd sp.s. c 13 s 2 are each amended to read as follows:

    (1) The state property tax levy for collection in 1996 shall be reduced by 4.7187 percent of the levy amount that would otherwise be allowed under this chapter without regard to this section or any other tax reduction legislation enacted in 1995.

    (2) The state property tax levy for collection in 1997 shall be reduced by 4.7187 percent of the levy amount that would otherwise be allowed under this chapter without regard to this section.

    (3) The tax reductions provided in this section ((is)) are in addition to any other tax reduction legislation that may be enacted by the legislature.

    (((3))) (4) State levies for collection after ((1996)) 1997 shall be set at the amount that would be allowed otherwise under this chapter if the state levy for collection in ((1996)) each year had been set without the reduction under ((subsection (1) of)) this section.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act applies to taxes levied for collection in 1997 and thereafter.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and takes effect immediately.
