Designating and funding a highway project to be done under a design-build procedure.


    AN ACT Relating to construction of certain highway projects under a design-build procedure; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The sum of seventy-five million dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated from the motor vehicle fund to the department of transportation for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1999, for the construction of two additional lanes on state route number 522 from state route number 9 to the Snohomish River bridge in the vicinity of milepost 20.0, including interchanges at Paradise Lake Road and Fales Road.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  The projects authorized by section 1 of this act shall be carried out by means of an alternative public works contracting procedure project using a design-build procedure.  As used in this section, "design-build procedure" means a contract between the department of transportation and another party in which the party agrees to both design and build the structures, facilities, and other items specified in the contract.  The project authorized by section 1 of this act must be awarded to a contractor no later than December 31, 1997.
