Contracting with certified public accountants to conduct financial audits of public school districts.

    AN ACT Relating to contracts with certified public accountants to conduct financial audits of public school districts; and amending RCW 43.09.045.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

    Sec. 1.  RCW 43.09.045 and 1995 c 301 s 4 are each amended to read as follows:

(1) Except under subsection (2) of this section, the state auditor may contract with public accountants certified in Washington to carry out those portions of the duties of auditing state agencies and local governments as the state auditor may determine.

(2) The state auditor shall contract with public accountants certified in Washington to carry out those portions of the duties under this chapter of conducting financial audits of public school districts organized under chapter 28A.315 RCW.
