  Facilitating assistance for students with disabilities.


    AN ACT Relating to students with disabilities; and amending RCW 72.40.060.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    Sec. 1.  RCW 72.40.060 and 1985 c 378 s 21 are each amended to read as follows:

    ((It shall be the duty of all)) (1) A school district((s in the state, to report to their respective)) shall report to its educational service district((s)) with the name((s)) and mailing address of ((all visually or hearing impaired youth)) each youth residing within ((their respective)) the school district((s)) who ((are)) is between the age((s)) of three and twenty-one years and who is visually or hearing impaired, as determined by the superintendent of public instruction under RCW 28A.155.020.  The school district shall ask the parent or legal guardian of a child identified as visually or hearing impaired if the office of deaf and hard of hearing services, within the department of social and health services, or department of services for the blind, may send the parent or legal guardian information regarding services for the visually or hearing impaired.  The school district shall provide the information to the educational service district within thirty days after the child has been identified by the school district as being visually or hearing impaired.

    (2) An educational service district shall provide the name and mailing address of each visually or hearing impaired youth residing within the educational service district to the office of deaf and hard of hearing services, or department of services for the blind, if the parent or legal guardian of the visually or hearing impaired child has requested information regarding services for the visually or hearing impaired under subsection (1) of this section.  The educational service district shall provide the information to the office of deaf and hard of hearing services or department of services for the blind within thirty days after the educational service district has been notified by the school district.  The office of deaf and hard of hearing services or department of services for the blind may use information obtained from the educational service districts for the sole purpose of notifying parents of the services for the visually or hearing impaired.
