Exempting construction at school facilities from prevailing wages.

    AN ACT Relating to exempting public schools and educational service districts from prevailing wages related to construction of school facilities; adding a new section to chapter 39.12 RCW; creating a new section; and providing an effective date.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  It is the intent of the legislature to provide an exemption from the prevailing wages required by chapter 39.12 RCW for the construction and improvement of public school facilities.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 39.12 RCW to read as follows:

    The prevailing wages required under this chapter do not apply to labor and services for land clearing, earth moving, site preparation, constructing, repairing, decorating, renovating, expanding, or improving new or existing buildings, structures, or facilities of or for a school district, as defined in chapter 28A.315 RCW, or an educational service district, as defined in chapter 28A.310 RCW.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 3.  This act takes effect July 1, 1998.
