Regulating airport runway construction.


    AN ACT Relating to expansion of air transportation facilities; adding a new section to chapter 47.68 RCW; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The legislature finds that the citizens of the state are concerned about the efficiency and effectiveness of the Puget Sound region's air transportation system, but are also concerned about the adverse environmental impacts that regional commercial airports inflict upon their communities.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 47.68 RCW to read as follows:

    In order to minimize the adverse impact of regional commercial airports on surrounding communities, no county-wide port district may construct a runway or cause a runway to be extended in those counties that have a population of one million or more, and that have a commercial airport within its geographical boundaries that has a minimum of 300,000 operations per year.
