AN ACT Relating to financial aid account flexibility between state work study and state need grant programs; and adding a new section to chapter 28B.85 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28B.85 RCW to read as follows:
The higher education coordinating board shall make every effort to follow the legislature's directions to expend the funds appropriated to the state need grant program and the state work study program within the specific program. After January 15th and no later than April 1st, the board shall make a determination of whether the funds appropriated to the programs can be expended within the specified program by the end of the fiscal period. To maximize the use of appropriated funds by students, the board may transfer up to one percent of the combined appropriation for the state work study program and the state need grant program between the separate appropriations for these programs.
