AN ACT Relating to domestic relations; and amending RCW 26.04.160.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
Sec. 1. RCW 26.04.160 and 1993 c 451 s 1 are each amended to read as follows:
(1)
Application for a marriage license must be made and filed with the appropriate
county auditor upon blanks to be provided by the county auditor for that
purpose((, which)). The application shall be under the oath of
each of the applicants, and each application shall state the name, address at
the time of execution of application, age, birthplace, whether single, widowed
or divorced, ((and)) whether under control of a guardian, residence
during the past six months((: PROVIDED, That)), and shall contain
the following statement:
"The laws of this state affirm your right to enter into this marriage and at the same time to live within the marriage free from violence and abuse. Neither you nor your spouse is the property of the other. The laws against physical abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, sexual abuse, battery, and assault, as well as other provisions of the criminal laws of this state, are applicable to spouses and other family members, and violations of these laws are punishable by either fine or imprisonment, or both."
Each
county may require ((such)) other ((and further)) information on
((said)) the application as it ((shall)) deems
necessary.
(2) The county legislative authority may impose an additional fee up to fifteen dollars on a marriage license for the purpose of funding family services such as family support centers.
