Requiring a model training program for voluntary school bus monitors.


    AN ACT Relating to volunteer school bus monitors; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.300 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.300 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) A program to help train safety volunteers for school bus monitors on elementary school bus routes is established.

    (2) The office of the superintendent of public instruction shall create a model training program.

    (3) Program standards for the training shall include but not be limited to requirements for:

    (a) First aid instruction; and

    (b) Information about appropriate student conduct on school buses and school bus safety.

    (4) The program shall include a handbook for volunteers on school buses and video training.

    (5) The office of the superintendent of public instruction shall make information about the model program and the training materials available to all school districts.  The office of the superintendent of public instruction may charge fees to cover the costs of distributing the materials if funds are not appropriated.
