Conducting vehicle identification number inspections on out-of-state vehicles.

    AN ACT Relating to vehicle identification number inspections on out-of-state vehicles; and adding a new section to chapter 43.43 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 43.43 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) The chief of the Washington state patrol shall use county auditors and subagents, if they volunteer, to conduct vehicle identification number inspections on out-of-state vehicles brought into the state.

    (2) The state patrol may retain authority to inspect an out-of-state vehicle, if there is a reasonable belief that the vehicle is stolen.
