Regulating ferry queues.


    AN ACT Relating to vehicles boarding ferries; adding a new section to chapter 46.61 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 47.60 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 46.61 RCW to read as follows:

    It is a traffic infraction for a driver of a motor vehicle intending to board a Washington state ferry, to block a residential driveway while waiting to board the ferry.  Jurisdiction for enforcement of this section is determined in accordance with RCW 47.60.275.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 47.60 RCW to read as follows:

    The department shall take steps to mitigate problems associated with lengthy ferry queues, including the blockage of residential driveways, by establishing a maximum queue length for each ferry terminal, the end of which must occur five feet before the first residential driveway, and by implementing procedures and any needed infrastructural changes to enforce this requirement.
