Creating pilot projects creating fee-based offender educational and vocational programs.


    AN ACT Relating to offender education; and adding a new section to chapter 72.09 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 72.09 RCW to read as follows:

    The department shall develop and implement three pilot projects creating fee-based offender educational and vocational programs.  The educational programs shall be designed for postsecondary academic achievement and the vocational programs shall offer instruction in employment skills not presently available in the pilot institutions.  The fees charged for these programs shall be consistent with RCW 72.09.460.  If an inmate receives funds that are dedicated for payment of the fee-based educational and vocational programs, those funds are exempt from the deductions provisions of RCW 72.09.480.
