Developing education requirements for members of the commission on judicial conduct.

    AN ACT Relating to education requirements for members of the commission on judicial conduct; and adding a new section to chapter 2.64 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 2.64 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) Beginning January 1, 2000, each member of the commission is required to obtain fifteen clock hours of annual continuing judicial education course work that has been developed or approved by the board of court education.

    (2) After the effective date of this section, a member must attend, within one year of appointment to the commission, an orientation seminar developed or approved by the board, in consultation with the commission.

    (3) The commission shall adopt rules to implement this section, including annual reporting requirements and sanctions for noncompliance.
