Requiring school districts to adopt codes of ethics for school employees.


    AN ACT Relating to school employee codes of ethics; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.320 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.320 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) Each school district shall adopt a code of ethics and encourage individual schools within the district to implement its code of ethics.

    (2) The code of ethics may include, but not be limited to:

    (a) Teacher dress codes;

    (b) Prohibiting campaign or political buttons or statements;

    (c) Prohibiting school employee-student relationships;

    (d) Prohibiting unethical relations between teachers and students; and

    (e) Prohibiting teachers from giving gifts or favors to individual students.
