               (AS OF HOUSE 2ND READING 2/10/98)

 

     Directs the state board of education to provide for the implementation of one or more means of assessing the knowledge or abilities, or both, of all applicants for teaching certificates required by the state board under this chapter.

     Provides that, on or before September 1, 2000, the state board at a minimum shall assess:  (1) An applicant's knowledge in the subjects of reading, writing, communications, and mathematics as determined by the state board; and

     (2) an applicant's teaching abilities or knowledge of teaching, or both, as determined by the state board.

     Provides that the proposed assessments are to be made available to the state library and placed on the legislative alert list.

     Repeals RCW 28A.410.020.
