HB 2838 - DIGEST

 

     Provides that, if an offender is convicted of an offense that is domestic violence, as defined in RCW 10.99.020, and the offender has minor children or the victim of the offense for which the offender is convicted has minor children, the court may require the offender, as part of the offender's sentence, to attend a seminar concerning the effects of domestic violence on children.  The seminar should cover the emotional impacts of domestic violence on children, the long-term consequences that exposure to incidents of domestic violence may have on children, and parenting skills to help the offender control the events or behavior that lead to incidents of domestic violence.  The offender shall bear the cost of attending the seminar.
