HB 2934 - DIGEST

Finds that consideration of placement in a setting less restrictive than total confinement cannot occur at the initial commitment trial for sexually violent predators.  As a result of their extreme dangerousness and unique mental conditions, sexually violent predators are initially unsuitable for less restrictive placements normally available to persons committed under chapter 71.05 RCW.  Sexually violent predators require an intensive period of evaluation and treatment following commitment in a controlled and secure environment before determining the possibility of a less restrictive alternative.
