SB 5995 - DIGEST

 

     Declares that "serious mental illness" means the following psychiatric illnesses as defined by the American Psychiatric Association in the diagnostic and statistical manual (DSM) IV-R:  (1) Schizophrenia;

     (2) paranoid and other psychotic disorders;

     (3) bipolar disorders (mixed, manic, and depressive);

     (4) major depressive disorders (single episode or recurrent); and

     (5) schizo-affective disorders (bipolar or depressive).

     Declares that the schedule of services for the condition of serious mental illness must be at least as favorable as the coverage made available for services and benefits for other major illnesses and must include the same durational limits, amount limits, deductibles, and coinsurance factors.
