SB 6485 - DIGEST

     Provides that, in any legal action, or settlement thereof, by the state of Washington to recover moneys expended by the state for the tobacco-related health care costs of state residents, and to the maximum extent permitted by court order, negotiated settlement, or federal law, the proceeds received by the state shall be subject to legislative appropriation and shall be deposited as follows:  (1) Two-thirds of the proceeds shall be deposited to the education enhancement account; and

     (2) one-third of the proceeds shall be deposited to the health services account established by RCW 43.72.900 and may be used exclusively for funding the enrollment of eligible persons in the basic health plan under chapter 70.47 RCW.

     Requires approval by the people at the next general election.
