On page 3, line 17, after Athat@ strike all material through Astocks.@ on line 24 and insert A, despite substantial analysis by the scientific community to determine the biological benefit of breaching dams, there continue to be conflicting scientific views. Therefore, we ask that the federal government not consider breaching dams on the main stem of the Columbia or Snake river because of those conflicting views and the adverse economic and transportation effects breaching these dams would have on the region.@
EFFECT: 1) Rather than asking the federal government to acknowledge that breaching these dams would not be more effective than other options for enhancing anadromous fish runs, the amendment asks the federal government to acknowledge that there continue to be conflicting scientific views on the biological benefit of breaching the dams; and 2) rather than asking that breaching the dams not be considered a productive option for enhancing fish stocks, the amendment asks that the dams not be breached because of those conflicting views and the adverse economic and transportation effects.
