     On page 3, after line 6, insert the following:

     A(b) In lieu of providing written or written and signed notice regarding smoke detection devices otherwise required under this subsection, the landlord may provide the tenant verbal notice that the dwelling unit is equipped with a smoke detector, that the device is hard-wired or battery operated, that the tenant has the responsibility to maintain the smoke detection device in proper operating condition, and of the penalties for failure to comply with the provisions of RCW 48.48.140(3).@

 

Renumber subsequent subsections and internal references accordingly.

 

 


 

EFFECT: Provides that a landlord, in lieu of providing written notice regarding smoke detection devices, may provide the tenant verbal notice that the dwelling unit is equipped with a smoke detector and that the device is hard-wired or battery operated, and that the tenant has the responsibility to maintain the smoke detection device in proper operating condition and the penalties for failure to comply with the provisions of RCW 48.48.140(3).
