SENATE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION
Staff: Brad Lovaas (786-7307); Lynn Hale (786-7346)
Background: The State Patrol highway account was created in 1981 as an account within the motor vehicle fund. Under current law the State Patrol highway account receives $20.35 of each vehicle license fee and $20.35 of each vehicle license renewal fee.
Prior to the passage of Initiative 695 the vehicle license fee was $27.75 and the renewal license fee was $23.75. Initiative 695 raised both the initial license fee and the renewal license fee to $30. Current law would require that the increase in the license and renewal license fee would be deposited in the State Patrol highway account.
Summary of Bill: The State Patrol highway account receives $20.35 of each vehicle license fee and $20.35 of each renewal license fee. The additional increase in revenue must be deposited in the motor vehicle fund.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Requested on January 26, 2000.
Effective Date: The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect on January 1, 2000.
