                   SB 6848

                    As of February 11, 2000

Title:  An act relating to removing ten‑year time limitations affecting lake management districts.

Brief Description:  Removing ten‑year time limitations affecting lake management districts.

Sponsors:  Senators Roach, Fraser, Goings, Rasmussen, Franklin, Winsley, Oke and Swecker.

Brief History:

Committee Activity:  Environmental Quality & Water Resources

SENATE COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY & WATER RESOURCES

Staff:  Genevieve Pisarski (786-7488)

Background:  Existing law authorizes counties to create lake management districts for a period of up to ten years for the purpose of financing improvement and maintenance through special assessments.  Any resolution or petition for the creation of a lake management district must include the proposed duration of the district.  There is concern that a ten-year limit on duration impedes ability to undertake activities that require long-term financing.

Summary of Bill:  The ten-year limit on the duration of lake management districts and the term of lake management district bonds is removed.

Appropriation:  None.

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
