Requiring safety devices for flaggers.


    AN ACT Relating to safety devices for flaggers; adding a new section to chapter 49.17 RCW; creating a new section; and providing an effective date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 49.17 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) Flaggers posted under Title 47 RCW shall use signs or paddles equipped with mirrors, or equivalent devices.  The type, position, and dimensions of the mirrors, or equivalent devices, must be such that the flagger has adequate warning of objects approaching from behind the flagger.

    (2) The department of labor and industries shall adopt by rule safety and health standards to implement and enforce the requirements of subsection (1) of this section.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act takes effect January 1, 2001.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  This act shall be known and cited as the "Kim Vendl Worker Safety Act."
