SENATE RESOLUTION

                         2000-8704

 

 

By Senators Rasmussen, Roach, Wojahn, Spanel, Honeyford, Swecker, Stevens, Shin, Haugen and Bauer

 

     WHEREAS, The agricultural industry in Washington State is as technologically advanced and as efficient as any in the nation or the world;

 

     WHEREAS, Annual agricultural production at the farm gate in this state exceeds $5 billion dollars and less than two percent of our population now produces sufficient food for our nation citizens and to many consumers abroad;

 

     WHEREAS, Washington's  agriculture is the second most diversified state with the production of over one hundred agricultural commodities;

 

     WHEREAS, General farm organizations, such as the Washington State Farm Bureau, bring together and represent the varied segments of agriculture to successfully meet the many new challenges that face this industry;  

 

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State Senate recognizes the hard work and valuable contribution of  those men, women and families in Washington State who produce the food that sustains families domestically and abroad, and the vital role this industry plays in the economy of both rural and urban areas.
