HB 2370-S - DIGEST

(DIGEST OF PROPOSED 1ST SUBSTITUTE)

     Provides that the Washington association of sheriffs and police chiefs shall contract for the purposes of conducting a study of the total costs and expenditures for law enforcement for both counties and cities within the county for counties with populations over one hundred fifty thousand.

     Requires the Washington association of sheriffs and police chiefs to commence the study by July 1, 2000, and complete the study by January 1, 2001.  The final report shall be distributed to the Washington association of sheriffs and police chiefs, and to the appropriate standing committee by January 30, 2001.

     Makes an appropriation of two hundred fifty thousand dollars from the general fund to the Washington association of sheriffs and police chiefs for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2001, for the purposes of this act.

     Provides that the act shall be null and void if appropriations are not approved.
