     On page 132, line 25, increase the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 2002 by $663,000.

     On page 132, line 26, increase the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 2003 by $1,452,000.

     Correct the total accordingly.

     On page 137, beginning on line 29, strike all of subsection (12) and insert the following: "(12) $970,000 of the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 2002 and $1,982,000 of the general fund-state appropriation for fiscal year 2003 are provided solely for salary bonuses for teachers who hold a current certificate from the national board for professional teaching standards. Teachers who hold a current certificate from the national board shall receive an annual bonus of $5,000.  An additional $5,000 bonus shall be paid in any year in which a teacher who holds a current certificate from the national board is selected by his or her school district to mentor other teachers while continuing to teach in the classroom.  Salary bonuses provided under this subsection (12) shall not be included in the definition of "earnable compensation" under RCW 41.32.010(10)."

EFFECT: Removes provisions for a $3,500 two-year bonus for teachers holding certificates from the national board for professional teaching standards.  Provides for $5,000 annual salary bonuses for teachers holding certificates from the national board, and an additional $5,000 bonus for teachers holding such a certificate who also mentor other teachers.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Increases General Fund-State by $2,115,000.
